The Epiphany series of five paintings grew out of the previous single painting (Symphony No.10). The large ball of fire dominating that work has now transformed into large balls of light that are progressively lighter in each painting. They became a series of variations allowing an exploration of the relationship between figure and ground. The prominence of the circular image in the first painting gradually dissolved into the background as the colours lightened with each work. The music that inspired them was Luciano Berio’s Epifanie for female voice and Orchestra.
